As a nanny with over 13 years of experience, I’ve never expected tips, but my goal is to help educate families on how to maintain a long-term, positive relationship with their nanny and understand the reasons a nanny might choose to transition to another family. Nannying is a service, and when your nanny goes above and beyond, they should feel valued for their hard work. Tipping doesn't need to be frequent or substantial—a small gesture can have a significant impact. On challenging days, such as when managing sick children or caring for pets, rounding up their pay or offering an extra $5–$10 can be a meaningful way to show appreciation. I've even had families offer thoughtful gestures, like a gas card, as a tip. Any consideration, especially when a nanny invests personal money into toys or activities for the children, is always deeply appreciated.
